Well the season has started with a bang hasn’t it?
This weekend saw racing across Friday, Saturday and Sunday......On Friday we had riders at Manchester velodrome, I spotted a win from Jess Crampton (good to have you back after a nasty crash in November at the Revolution), a slightly different competion on bikes was going on at the Northern quarter in Manchester city centre, Matt Rotherham, Megan Boyd and Melissa Bury did us proud there with Matt winning the male event, Melissa winning the female event with a national record and Megan just pipped to 3rd place. Early to rise on Saturday saw the interclub competition
between us, Newcastle and the Isle
of Man kick off at the velodrome with a really good demonstration
of teamwork by both the riders and the parents.
I didn't see much of the racing however I could see that we were doing rather
well when I was doing the results......On
schedule, we moved across the road to Eastlands (Manchester City's
ground) where with the support of the local sports development people we set up
a fantastic crit course with sharp corners, a little bit of a hill and a great
surface. It was the first time we had used the course and it was fantastic we
glowing praise from the riders, Tim Buckle and a number of parents.
Again teamwork was key to success.Again Phil
will be doing a race report so I'll not report on that suffice to say we did
rather well and have a trophy.....At
the same time back inside on the track on Saturday afternoon some of our riders
were performing in the extended Revolution event riding Madison! Also racing in
the afternoon where Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton et all.....Jake
represented us in the boys and Lisa, Melissa and Jess represented us in the
girls future stars event. Sorry I
don't know too much about the lads event but I expect it was very tough..... In
the girls event Lisa managed to bag 2nd in the last sprint and
Melissa and Jess who were a pairing got third overall.
Into the evening the Revolution continued in front of a sold out velodrome,
Sportcity had the 4 members above representing us and there were some great
performances! Lisa managed 4th in the devil after been taken out by
another rider who was disqualified, Jake got 3rd in the devil and
Melissa managed to bag 2nd in the scratch race. Lisa was on Chris
Hoys team and was awarded significant numbers of energy bars by him.

On Sunday at least
two of our riders entered the Clayton Velo handicap Eric Fitton and Jim
Cousins. Eric didn't trouble Chris Newton too much however had a thoroughly
good time in his first open road race.
