BSCA Mountain Bike
Written by Ian Bury
Hi thought I would let you know how we got on in Deal for the BSCA MTB champs.

We too had snow but the worst came after the under 8's race.

Kim was the only girl so her aim was to lap the boys which she did, just missing out on doing it twice. Matthew had a great battle with a six year old boy. They were together for most of the race, but it proved to be one lap too many for the other boy (15mins plus 1 lap!) and Matthew took the lead just before the bell which he held on to until the finish to take his first National title age 4.
So an eleven hour round trip, 2 gold medals and lots of smiles but no race action photos as my hands were too cold to take out of my pockets!!

See you soon
Kelly

This Weekend......
Written by Ian Bury

This weekend I have had the pleasure of witnessing a very professional display by the Eastlands and the Sportcity riders racing at the Terry Dolan Series and also a little further afield at Hetton in the first round of the national circuit championships in very exciting conditions (read snow and cold)!

The sport we do was very full on this weekend with help required from everybody to ensure all bikes on the start line for the off.

Brothers, sisters, parents, coaches, grandparents, the dog and er the riders all contributed to a super weekend and now rather a lot of kit washing.

Participation from our club was great in terms of numbers and also results and it was great to see everybody having a good time (except perhaps me when being stood in the snow at Hetton for ages with wet socks).

When I find a link to the results I will add it to this post, needless to say Eastlands and Sportcity have obtained oodles of British Cycling ranking points this weekend across every category and every age range.

Watching the riders moving through the ranks and learning is a real pleasure ad long may it continue...

UCI calls Manchester Worlds 'best ever'

UCI calls Manchester Worlds 'best ever'

The Union Cycliste Internationale has been delighted with last week's World Track Championships held in Manchester 26th – 30th March. The five day event saw Great Britain win nine gold medals and set two world records. The crowds filled the Velodrome in SportCity with the final four nights completely sold out.

"I can safely say that this was the best World Championships that the UCI has ever had," said UCI President Pat McQuaid: "In looking at that you bring many factors into consideration. Firstly there is the huge support from the public which has been here right from the very beginning. Even the afternoon sessions have been full and the public have been both enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable.

"Secondly the performances of the athletes have been outstanding and the Great Britain team stands out above the rest with the number of medals that they won. Thirdly the media coverage has been fantastic. We have had a huge media presence at the event and of course we have had live TV from the BBC. The press coverage has been huge and a picture from the championships even made it on to the front page of the Sunday Times. All these things added together make this the best World Championships we have ever had."

"This bodes well for future events in Manchester too," McQuaid continued: "It's only natural that the cycling federations and the athletes want to come to venues where they are appreciated and where the public appreciate what they do."
