Omnium at Newcastle
Written by rebecca rotherham

WOW!! It finally happened - the sun shone ALL day, the racing was fast and furious - it was a fantastic event to watch with over 100 riders as it was a Northern and Midlnad qualification event.  But as has been the case in other rounds it was almost a total whitewash, or should I say pink wash and blue wash, by Sportscity and Eastlands Velo riders.  The results are now on line - but in short:

U10 G   1st Kim Baptista

U 12 B  1st Matt Walls, 2nd Tom Rotherham

U 14 G 1st Clare Gore, 2nd Megan Boyd, 3rd India Penrice

U 14 B  1st Jake Ragan, 2nd Chris Lawless

U 16 G 1st Jess Crampton, 2nd Jess Anderson, 3rd Melissa Bury, 4th Lisa Daly, 5th Hannah Layland

U 16 B 1st Matt Rotherham, 2nd Jack Penrice, 3rd Luke Boulton

It was combined with the Midland region and Jake Ragan, Matt Rotherham and Jess Crampton took overall first places.

It's looking like we will have a good contingent at the Omnium Finals to be held at Manchester.  WELL DONE EVERYONE!!

Top Time Triallers!
Written by Ian Bury
On Saturday 13th June was the GHS qualifier for the Manchester District.  (10 Mile Time Trial).
Eastlands Velo had two riders to start - Tom Walker and Fabio Close.  The conditions were excellent if a little breezy.
Both boys did excellent times both PB's on this undulating course - Tom Walker 25.07 minutes and Fabio Close 25.37 minutes, so both will qualify for the final in September in the Midlands.
Excellent Ride boys!!

SCUNTHORPE OMNIUM
Written by rebecca rotherham

Another good turn out for Eastlands and Sportscity at the 3rd round of the northern omnium - despite setting off with the wind howling and the rain lashing, those brave enough to venture over the Pennines ended up doing the club proud again.  Pete Boyd thought he was riding in the Indie Car championship as he helped dry the track out!!  Once the track had dried out, the racing was fast and furious.  It was another great day of racing - thanks everyone.  Results as follows:

U12 - 1st Matt Walls, 2nd Tom Rotherham

U14 girls - 1st Megan Boyd, 2nd India Penrice

U14 boys - 1st Jake Ragan, 2nd Chris Lawless

U16 girls - 1st Melissa Bury, 2nd Lisa Daly

U16 boys - 1st Jack Penrice

With one final round to go, qualification for the finals is looking promising for many of our riders.  See you at Newcastle.

22 riders from Sportscity and Eastlands made the 600 mile round trip to Dundee and Edinburgh for the Northern National Omnium Series.  We were basking in sunshine and witnessed some fantastic racing dubbed at times as "as good as the professionals".  Some superb racing produced some fantastic results - so well done everyone.  DUNDEE - Kim finished 2nd in the youth D and E, Matt Walls took 2nd in Youth C with Tom Rotherham digging in and coming away with a 5th, it was 1 and 2 for Jake and Chris Lawless in the Youth B boys with Lewis Barry hot on their heels in 4th, Alex riding well, Megan Boyd dominated the Youth B girls, Youth A girls was a 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 - the pink train on this occasion led by Melissa, with Jess A, Hannah, Jess C and  Lisa completing the line up, undeterred Katie Noakes produced some superb riding.  Moving onto Youth A boys James Berryman took top spot with the rest of the boys in blue taking 7th-11th place.  Sean and Callum showed how much  they continue to improve.  EDINBURGH - moving south saw much the same domination with some changes in positions - Kim 2nd, Matt Walls took top spot with Tom getting on the podium for the first time in 3rd, Youth B girls and boys remained unchanged although Alex moved higher up the field, Youth A girls was again led by the girls in pink but this time saw Jess C finish ahead of Jess A, Hannah and the Lisa in 4th.  Youth A boys saw 2 podium finishers this time with Matt Rotherham taking top spot and Jack Penrice in 3rd.  WELL DONE to you all - it was thoroughly enjoyable watching you.  WATCH OUT SCUNTHORPE here we come!!
