NW Regional Track Championships

WOW! What a fantastic evening of racing on Friday, dominated by the yellow of Eastlands and the blue and pink of Sportcity.  The event started with flying 1 lap time trials - lots of leg spinning and some fast times posted - Matt Rotherham being one of only 2 riders from a field of 80+ to post a sub 15 sec - the other rider being Dave Readle - many riders posting sub 16 sec rides.  So well done all of you.  Then to the group racing with some very close finishes. Youth C/D finished with 2 podium places - Joel Partington and Leighton Sharmon, Youth B boys finished with all 3 on the podium - Jake Ragan, Chris Lawless and Alex Taylor, Youth B girls finished with Clare Gore and Megan Boyd on the podium, Youth A boys 1, 2, 3 for Matt Rotherham, Chris Latham and Luke Boulton, Youth A girls - 1, 2, 3 for Jess Crampton, Melissa Bury and Jess Anderson.  Well done to you all and well done to all those, too numerous to mention, who raced but were not in the final placings.

British Schools National Roller Championship

5 Eastlands and Sportcity riders ventured South to Lichfield for the British Schools National Roller Racing competition today. We had riders in all categories with good competition from all over the uk with 80 entries. The races comprised of three events with 2*500m time trials  and rolling 1000m race-big gears were the order of the day with just a gear restiction of 7.4 metres for all entrants. So if you wee 7 year old and you could budge that gear you could be beating a 16 year old.

Some great performances from all and we walked away with two national championships Mathew Rotherham and Leighton Sharman, Mathew Braybrooke also got  second. In addition Matthew Rotherham knocked a further second of his own U14 national roller racing record and 3seconds off his own kilo national record. Mathew Rotherham had the quickest times of the day.....

Well done all and well done Phil for sending me the report!

As you are all probably aware we in conjunction with Tameside cycling development group and CDNW are running an event, a round of the National Youth Circuit race series in Hyde Park Tameside on sat 18th April and I need a whole lot of volunteers to help out on the day as marshals.  It is vital that this event is a success and one of the ways we can make sure it is, is by turning out in force to help on the day! 

At the last planning meeting it was announced that the event was to be made a selection event for this summers youth Olympic festival in Finland, this is terrific news and ensures a quality field and some top racing.  We have secured the use of one of the best circuits or probably THE best circuit I have ever seen in youth cycling, an event of this quality needs quality marshalling.  We need as many marshals as we can get because it is a hugely technical circuit with lots of bends and not your usual flat, easy, featureless with long boring straights park circuit, it is a mega circuit. 

This would be the perfect time for some of ex Mossley members to get together again for a mini re-union and meet up again with some 'not seen for a long time' friends. So please, if you can spare a few hours to help out we need you!  Get in touch please.

Talking to Janis [Dowson Primary] the other day she said what a success their mountain bike ride along the Middlewood Way had been, 21 riders very much enjoyed a muddy day out.  It has been a long time since we had 21 riders on a club ride, just 2 off us again today. This lead me to wonder seeing as almost everyone has a mountain bike, whether there is a need to have some regular Mossley MounTain Bike rides.

My idea is if there is enough interested takers to have MMTB rides starting with a nice gentle one that all ages and abilities can enjoy, in fact one just like Janis did the other week building up in distance and severity as we all get fitter and better.  Not every week but say once a month, but first I need to know if this is what you want so please give me feedback if it is only "you should have more sense at your age you silly old sod".

Isle of Man

The North West Regional Board as given funding for a Youth and Junior team to go to the Isle of Man Youth/Junior Tour between the 1st and 3rd May.

I am currently in the process of booking ferries and accommodation for this trip with the money provided by the board.

There are places for three Youth A boys, three Youth A Girls and 3 Junior Males on the trip.

I am planning on using a couple of races as selection races for this event.

The selection races for the Youths will be:

CDNW Youth League Round 1       Southport       14/3/09

National Youth Circuit Series   Yarbourgh       22/3/09

Youth riders will be scored 10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1 (riders finishing in the top ten) of the overall at Southport after the two races and the Yarbourgh race (NW riders only will be scored.) The 3 riders with the best scores will be selected. In the event of a tie the panel will look at: the way riders rode the race, their approach, professionalism to decide.

The selection races for the Juniors are a little more difficult as the races are spread around a lot more.

The Eddie Soens Memorial will be used along with the CDNW Road Race at Saighton. Junior riders that think they merit a place on the trip but aren’t able to enter those races then please get in touch with myself.

Hi All
We are just under two weeks to go untill the first CDNW youth league.
I have sent Ivor the latest up to date entries and they will be uploaded at www.cdnw.org when he gets a bit of time.
If you still havent entered I will accept entries up till next Wednesday so make sure you get it in the post and save yourself a couple of pounds, it also makes it a bit easier for us on the day.
Signing on will close at 9.45am on the day with the first race off at 10. The format for the races will be the same as the end of the youth league last year with a short "mini" race followed by the actual crit. So every category will continue to get two races in the day.
If you wish to unsubscribe to the email list then please drop me an email and I will take you off the list.
